Just Say No to Baby Corn

Maybe the fresh stuff is ok, but that canned crap they put in standard Chinese food is for the birds. Deep down I know that they are just immature ears of regular corn, but they just don’t do it for me.

Today we ordered lunch in from a brand new restaurant in Malden called All Seasons Table. We have anxiously been awaiting its opening; Malden has a dearth of decent places to get lunch. We all agreed that we liked the food and would go back, but my chicken with Basil and Chile was laced with the little buggers.

The Burrito Challenge

Ever wonder who has the better burrito – Qdoba or Chipotle?
John K. and I put this to a ‘taste off’, sampling the same burrito from both places. By a vote of 2 – 0, Chipolte won, with accolades for more balanced, layered flavors and superior guacamole.

I much prefer Anna’s for a West Coast taco experience, but alas we are not blessed with options in Malden.

Tomatoes!

The diagram shows the layout for this year’s crop of organic hybrid and heirloom tomatoes (courtesy of my ole pal Janie at chileplants.com).  If you are looking for the healthiest and most diverse selection of tomatoes and chile pepper plants – look no further.

My strategy this year is to plant the chilies in containers for the front of the house where it is super hot and sunny. That frees up space in the back yard for tomatoes only. I have also tried to select more early and mid-season varieties so that we have a good crop before the weather turns in September.
